"Kids today have no attention span! It's impossible to get them to listen long enough to learn anything!"

At the heart of both of these complaints lies the truth that all humans, regardless of generation, devote more time and focus to things that are of interest to them. The question then becomes "Why as educators, would we not want to make learning more engaging and fun?"

GAMIFICATION

"Kids today spend hour after hour playing video games! It's like they're glued to their screens!"

The solution to the problem is Gamification. Simply put, Gamification is the act of turning a learning process into a game through which you learn. Obviously, the implementation is sometimes not as simple, but as part of your flipped classroom design, I encourage you to work in aspects of gamification both in the at home "alone" piece and in the in class "together" piece.
